Frequently Asked Questions
What is the latest and the most modern method for the design and installation of living walls?
The latest and the most modern method for the design and installation of living walls is to use a smart hydroponic system. HiGreenWall currently uses the mentioned system for all its smart living walls.
Do HiGreenWall’s smart living walls suffer from pests and insects?
In general, pests and insects are found both indoors and outdoors. But, they may be repelled by periodic spraying. Exterior living walls, having flowering plants, may attract some insects such as bees.
Does the living wall smell bad over the time?
A well-designed living wall does not cause any odor, and eliminates toxic gases of the air. Due to the fact that Higreenwall’s irrigation system does not have a closed cycle, and extra water is released through the bottom gutter, this makes the living wall never smell bad. Because plants are irrigated every day for at least 20 minutes, it can wash away the planting bed every day and will never cause a bad odor. In order to prevent such a problem, it is also recommended not to use, as much as possible, the living walls with a closed irrigation system, especially for indoor projects.
How often does a living wall need to be visited and maintained?
In average, living walls should be visited and maintained once every 2 months regularly, and once a month during the growing season. maintenance of living walls includes cleaning leaves, spraying and repelling pests and insects, as well as refilling nutrients tank.
Is it possible to plant trees and shrubs on HiGreenWall’s living wall?
One of the most important features of Higreenwall’s living wall system is the possibility of planting various kinds of plant species, and most importantly, the ability to plant even trees and shrubs as well as other plants having thick stems. High-strength hydroponic skin does not limit the growth of plant roots, and the plant species can grow easily in this system, and create a stunning effect as compared to the other green wall systems.
What will happen to the living wall, if the water or electricity is cut off?
Generally, all plant species growing on a living wall cannot survive without water, and if the irrigation system is cut off, they will all wither and eventually die. In the event of a water or electricity outage, the irrigation system is disrupted, and our technical support team must be contacted as soon as possible to resolve the issue.
Does the hydroponic skin weaken and rupture over time?
The hydroponic skin is made of fully natural and recyclable materials, having a very high mechanical strength, which stabilizes the plant roots, and does not deteriorate over time due to changes in weather conditions, and works well like the day 1 even after a long period of time.
How much is the daily volume of water needed for irrigation as well as the weight and thickness of the living wall?
– In average, a daily volume of 25 liters of water is consumed per sq.m of the living walls installed outdoors, and between 1 and 13 liters for the living walls installed indoor, depending on the type of plant species.
– The weight of each sq.m of HiGreenWall’s living wall in saturation condition is about 40 kg.
– The thickness of HiGreenWall’s living wall, including the sub-structure, PVC waterproofing panel, as well as the three-layered hydroponic skin, is totally around 8 cm.
Is it possible to install a living wall indoors where there is no enough light?
Yes, HigreenWall’s living wall can be easily installed by using an artificial lighting system, even in places where there is no direct or indirect access to natural light. Generally, plants need around 16 hours of light per day for photosynthesis. Our experts will provide clients with detailed information about the technical specifications as well as the number of the needed lamps for each project.
