MP Rotator Nozzles vs Regular Spray Heads

MP Rotator nozzles put water down slowly in rotating streams, while fixed spray nozzles spray a fan of water all at once. On the clay soils common in Toronto and the GTA, the slower rate of MP Rotators means more water soaks in and less runs off, and their heavier streams hold up better in wind. That is why we design new lawn zones with MP Rotators on pressure-regulated bodies.

Watering rate and runoff

Fixed spray nozzles apply water several times faster than rotary nozzles. Clay soil cannot absorb water that fast, so it runs onto driveways and sidewalks. MP Rotators apply water slowly enough for most of it to soak in, and longer, shorter-cycle schedules finish the job.

Wind

Fine spray drifts in wind. The multiple heavier streams of an MP Rotator travel further and drift less, which keeps coverage even on windy GTA afternoons.

Matched precipitation

MP Rotators keep the same watering rate whether the nozzle covers a quarter, half or full circle, so corners and edges get the same water as the middle of the lawn.

When fixed sprays still make sense

Very small or oddly shaped spaces, and some low-pressure situations, can still suit fixed sprays. Garden beds usually do best with drip instead of either.

Can I convert my existing heads?

In many cases, yes. MP Rotator nozzles fit standard spray bodies. For best results all the heads on a zone are converted together and run times are reset.

  • They work best around 40 PSI at the nozzle. Pressure-regulated bodies keep them there.
